DSNU (Adv) - Advanced Academic 

Before applying for this award, a candidate must have successfully completed at a minimum of Grade ‘B’ level any one of the Advanced courses and must hold another Diploma other than the Basic Diploma.

The Final Assessment is arranged by EEcom. A candidate must complete an interview and an oral test of ten questions based on the thesis submitted on the course studied and knowledge of the SNU. The candidate will also take part in an interview session, where they will be required to answer media-orientated questions in a succinct and accurate manner.

DSNU (Art) - Spirit Art

Before applying for this award a candidate must hold the CSNU(art) and DSNU(D).

The Final Assessment is arranged by EEcom. A candidate must complete an oral test of ten questions based on the courses studied and knowledge of the SNU, take part in a demonstration of mediumship to the high evidential standard required for a large public venue where the audience is a mix of Spiritualists and non-Spiritualists, and demonstrate the ability to efficiently establish the correct recipient. A candidate needs to give two separate evidential drawings with evidential communication in 30 minutes.

To be regarded as a spirit artist all drawings must be of a recognisable person, known to the recipient, and accompanied by a body of evidence to identify who they are.

DSNU (B) - Basic Academic

A candidate must have completed the SD2, SD3 and S5 education courses with a grade B pass or higher. The candidate will be given a thesis title on acceptance to the course and will need to provide the thesis to the EE Committee before the Final Assessment Board.

The Final Assessment is arranged by EEcom. A candidate must complete an interview and an oral test of ten questions based on the subject of the thesis submitted on the courses studied and knowledge of the SNU.

DSNU (L) - Lecturing

A candidate on application must hold the DSNU in Speaking and must submit a title and synopsis of their proposed lecture no less than 28 days prior to their Final Assessment.

The Final Assessment is arranged by EEcom, which will include an oral test of ten questions based on courses studied for their specialist discipline and knowledge of the SNU. The candidate will also take part in an interview session, where they will be required to answer media-orientated questions in a succinct and accurate manner. They will be required to present their one-hour lecture including use of suitable visual aids, which must be of a standard suitable for a large public venue and include ten minutes to answer questions from the audience.

DSNU (PS) - Private Sittings

Before applying for this award a candidate must hold the CSNU(ps) and DSNU(D).

The Final Assessment is arranged by EEcom, which will include an oral test of ten questions based on courses studied and knowledge of the SNU. They will be required to take part in a practical session involving giving two 30-minute sittings to two recipients unknown to the candidate. One is to be an evidential sitting, with greater emphasis on providing evidence of survival, and the other a spiritual appraisal.

In relation to this award, Private Sittings are defined as:

  1. An evidential spirit communication with a single recipient on a one-to-one basis; or
  2. A spiritual appraisal of the sitter on a one-to-one basis.

DSNU (S) - Speaking

A candidate must hold the CSNU(s) and have completed courses the SD2, SD3 and S5 education courses with a grade B pass or higher. They will be issued with a logbook that contains the information required for the award. During these training sessions a candidate will be taught to understand the difference between an address given in a church service and an address delivered at an out-of-church venue. They will also learn how to speak about Spiritualism at local community events, such as interfaith groups or local radio interviews, if invited to do so. The training sessions must be completed to the satisfaction of the trainer.

The Final Assessment is arranged by EEcom which will include an oral test of ten questions based on the training undertaken and being a representative of the SNU. The candidate will also take part in an interview session, where they will be required to answer media-orientated questions in a succinct and accurate manner. The candidate will also be required to give a twenty-minute address suitable for a service of public worship. In addition, the candidate will give a talk introducing Spiritualism to a designated audience of non-Spiritualists, followed by up to ten minutes answering three questions posed by the assessors; time allowed for this up to thirty minutes.

Students must wait one year between completing the CSNU in speaking and applying for the DSNU in Speaking.

DSNU (D) - Demonstrating

A candidate must hold the CSNU(d) and have completed the SD2, SD3 and D5 education courses with a grade B pass or higher. They will be issued with a logbook that contains the information required for the award including training information on the pre-FAB training sessions required to complete the criteria. The training sessions must be completed to the satisfaction of the trainer.

The Final Assessment is arranged by EEcom which will include an oral test of ten questions based on the training undertaken and being a representative of the SNU. The candidate will also take part in an interview session, where they will be required to answer media-orientated questions in a succinct and accurate manner. The candidate will also take part in a demonstration of mediumship to the high evidential standard required for a large public venue where the audience is a mix of Spiritualists and non-Spiritualists and demonstrate the ability to efficiently establish the correct recipient. A candidate needs to give two separate evidential communications to two separate recipients in fifteen minutes. In addition, the candidate will give a talk explaining mediumship to a designated audience of non-Spiritualists, followed by up to ten minutes answering three questions posed by the assessors; time allowed for this is up to thirty minutes.

Students must wait one year between completing the CSNU in speaking & demonstrating and applying for the DSNU in Speaking.

DSNU (T) - Teaching

A candidate must hold the CSNU(t). They must also hold a practical Diploma in the discipline that they are applying to teach, i.e. S, D, H or G.

The Final Assessment is arranged by EEcom, which will include an oral test of ten questions based on courses studied and knowledge of the SNU. A candidate will be required to carry out a one-hour lecture (including Q & A) and give a tutorial and two group work sessions to a suitably-sized class; the assessment must be presented to a standard which shows that the candidate has attained the ability to teach at Diploma level. The teaching sessions will be aimed at advanced students.

DSNU (W) - Writing

A candidate must hold the CSNU(w) and completed the SD2 education courses with a grade B pass or higher and any two Advanced courses. A candidate must provide copies of at least five items which they have previously written and had published, of which two must be in publications in either national or international circulations.

The Final Assessment is arranged by EEcom, which will include an oral test of ten questions based on the written work submitted and knowledge of the SNU and its religion and philosophy. The candidate will also take part in an interview session, where they will be required to answer media-orientated questions in a succinct and accurate manner.

DSNU (E) - Lyceum Administration

A candidate must hold the CSNU(e) and have passed the S5 education course.

The Final Assessment is arranged by EEcom. A candidate must complete an oral test of ten questions based on the course studied and knowledge of the SNU. The candidate will also take part in an interview session, where they will be required to answer media-orientated questions in a succinct and accurate manner. An unrehearsed reading from a SNU publication, a ten-minute talk based upon the reading and a twenty-minute talk on the SLU presented to a standard that would be required for a large public venue. The candidate will also take part in an interview session, where they will be required to answer media-orientated questions based on the SNU in a succinct and accurate manner.
